Inside Line Promotions – GREAT FALLS, Mont. (Aug. 22, 2016) – Trey Starks earned his seventh victory of the season at the seventh different track last Saturday at Electric City Speedway.
Starks has now registered 22 career wins at 11 different tracks. His seven triumphs this season are only one away from tying his single-season high, which was set last season.
“It says that I’ve been really fortunate in being able to run at so many different tracks in so many different cars,” he said. “It’s also cool to say you’ve been successful in three different cars in three parts of the country.”
Starks, who was driving for Doug Rutz, kicked off last weekend’s doubleheader on Friday by advancing from fifth to third place in a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 4 to start the main event on the outside of the second row.
“The track was pretty narrow because they had some weather the night before,” he said. “It was tough to pass. We were running fourth about five or 10 laps in when we had mechanical problems that ended the race early. I’m not sure how it would have ended, but we seemed to be pretty strong.”
Starks was credited with a 15th-place result.
The team returned to the 3/8-mile oval on Saturday for the weekend finale. Starks won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That gave him a spot in the feature redraw and this time he pulled the No. 6 to start sixth.
“The track was wet early, but it ended up being a really good race track,” he said. “It was nice and hard, smooth and wide. You had multiple grooves on the track to race on.
“We got a really, really good start. I believe we were up to second in the first two laps. I ended up grabbing the lead on a restart about 10 laps in. I got (the leader) on the bottom in turn one. He floated through the middle and I ended up being able to creep underneath him. We had one restart with about 10 laps to go and I got a good restart. We fought through traffic and I just tried to keep pushing.”
Starks maintained the top spot for the remainder of the race to visit Victory Lane.
He and Rutz are slated to compete this Friday and Saturday at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, for the 61st annual Gold Cup with the NSA Shootout.
